Beautiful weather for Mother’s Day not only brought out fast times from the competitors on Fish Creek, but Ashley Miller from WNYT in Albany was kind enough to drop by and grab some video for the nightly sportscast on NBC affiliate WNYT.
Last year Saratoga Rowing captured 18 medals and executive director Eric Catalano said that it may be hard to top that number, but the organization found a way, winning 22 medals at the New York State Scholastic Rowing Association regatta on Fish Creek.
Here’s a look at Monday’s story in The Saratogian.
The weather couldn’t have been better for rowers, spectators and especially moms!
Here are Sunday’s championship sprint results.
Congratulations to all rowers, their teams and coaches for a great showing. Go get ’em at nationals! Sunday Sprint results
CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. – Instead of being on the water making a splash during February and March, the Friends of Shenendehowa and its supporters were busy trying to make bottles and cans ‘Clynk.’
The local rowing program made its move, often called a ‘Power 10’ of 10 powerful strokes during a race and teamed up with Hannaford and its 7th annual Clynk for Schools Recycling Challenge, earning an additional $1,500 as the top collector in New York State.
The Friends of Shenendehowa Crew program was credited with 17,045 returns for the month, ahead of second-place Troy’s School 18 with 13,610 entries and Loudonville School with 13,004.
“They gave us .50 cent on the dollar on top of the refund and for all the different schools that competed we had the most collections,” Friends of Shenendehowa Crew head coach Sean O’Brien said. “”We won a $1,500 prize for that and awarded a nice plaque and trophy at a ceremony.
“They were really happy with the turnout that we did, a Shen Crew program that represented Shenendehowa High School and we beat all the other full schools that competed in the program.” Continue reading “Shen Crew wins $1,500 Hannaford Clynk bottle return contest”
There are 19 towns in the U.S. that carry the name Waterford and at this year’s Saratoga Invitational it was Waterford Crew from Utah that traveled cross country to row on Fish Creek at Saratoga Lake, just 30 mninutes north of Waterford, New York.
It got even more interesting when the Waterford Coach, Andrew Henrickson, graduated from Skidmore College (the S-turn for the Head of the Fish) and coached one summer with SRA. Here is the story from The Saratogian.
It was a blustery weekend to say the least, small boats fast and safe on Friday, Saturday became a challenged and forced an early Sunday start.
Add in 45 degree weather with a steady rain and even cooler air temperature to make for a challenging end to the weekend and start to the Spring Sprint rowing season for many teams. 2018 Saratoga Invitational results
