Got Scholar Athletes? Spring 2017, Fall 2016, cool updates

Got Scholar Athletes? The New York State Scholastic Rowing Association is back with some tweaks and additions. We have (hopefully) streamlined the process to get awards out faster, made it easier for small teams (less than 9 student athletes) to be recognized and will also be honoring fall athletes.

The forms are slated for Spring 2017 with a June 30, 2017 deadline and the grading period is the 3rd quarter.

For teams wishing to recognize their Fall 2016 athletes, use the same form and use the 1st quarter grading period for your student athletes.

Submissions only with 9 or more student athletes will be considered for the overall NYSSRA Scholar Athlete Team of Distinction Award, but small programs with scholar athletes will still be recognized on the New York State Rowing web-site, receive certificates and pins.

We updated the form to include grades 9 thru 12 for submissions along with acceptance of weighted and non-weighted grades being acceptable.

It’s official: Cooper River reopened and ready for regattas

According to a story in the Courier Post on-line edition the Cooper River will reopen for rowing regattas March 25 with the Murphy Cup, the first of 12 confirmed regattas for the spring and summer after closure of the course in the fall of 2015 for major dredging and environmental cleanup.
The 12 regattas include the Doc Hosea Invitational Regatta on April 2, last year hosted by Saratoga Rowing Association on Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs and the return of the Scholastic Rowing Association of American national championship regatta May 25 to 27.
